Personal

My passions include reading, traveling, the outdoors and gardening. I love flowers and feel great satisfaction when what I plant grows into a beautiful bouquet. I moved from Calgary fifteen years ago in order to enjoy a relaxed rural setting but also enjoy traveling to see and experience new sites.

Education

I achieved my goal of attaining my CGA designation (August 1, 2011) and have an Accounting and Information Technology degree through SAIT.

Professional

Before joining GH&A in January 2006, I had twenty years experience working for private corporations in the construction supply and lumber industries. GH&A has given me the opportunity to expand my work experience into the public practice sector and I have found the work very rewarding.

Words of Wisdom

Love life to the fullest; we often forget to enjoy and appreciate what we have, so my advice is to take 10 minutes every day for reflection.

Personal

I have an extensive agricultural background, having been raised on a farm and am now farming with my husband at Arrowwood. Away from the office, you can find me alongside my husband raising our three children, working on the farm, gardening or renovating old houses. My family and I are avid community members, being directly involved and volunteering with the Lions, the Co-op, Ag Society, and the E.C.S. and playschool programs.

Education

I received my Bachelor of Management with a major in Accounting from the University of Lethbridge in 1999. I joined Gregory Harriman & Associates in 2000 and was training in the C.G.A. program. I then decided to pursue the Chartered Accountant designation by entering the C.A. School of Business (CASB) program in 2002. It was a definite challenge, but taught me perseverance and allowed me to grow educationally and as a person. I became a Chartered Accountant in December 2004.

Professional

I have been an employee of Gregory Harriman & Associates since 2000 and enjoy it very much. The staff have become like family and the synergy in our office is amazing, making it a great place to work. My interests are in audit and taxation and most importantly, serving our clients to my greatest ability.

I also enjoy being involved in our community and have been able to volunteer with various local organizations.

Education

I received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary in May of 2000 my Certified General Accountant's designation in June of 2006. I have completed the CICA In-Depth Tax Course - Parts l and ll.

Professional

I began working for Gregory, Harriman & Associates LLP in November of 2000 and am currently the tax manager at the firm, working on corporate reorganizations, tax planning and estate taxes.

Personal

I am a born and bred Calgarian who enjoys escaping the city’s congested roadways, driving out to Strathmore for a more controlled lifestyle. I have a great network of family and friends, including a very energetic new baby boy, who keep me very happy and busy. Most of my passions outside of work relate to sports. A golf enthusiast, I have competed provincially, nationally and even tried going pro for a couple of years. In a need for more security than that life provided, I turned to my education. During the summer, I am still very active in golf, and in the winter, two hockey teams and cheering on the Flames occupies several late evenings.

Education

I completed my Business Degree from the University of Calgary in May 2002 and after a two year professional golf experience, I entered the Chartered Accounting Articling program in 2004. After three eye-opening (and sleep-deprived) years in the program, I achieved the CA designation in December 2007.

Professional

My ten years at GH&A have been very rewarding and I feel I have grown professionally and personally. The best part of this career is interacting with the great clients to help them meet their needs. Whether it be a large intercompany tax strategy or simple bookkeeping advice, the ability to help them achieve their goals is very important to me.

As a CA graduate, I am involved in the mentoring of aspiring CA’s in our firm. This rewarding experience is made very worthwhile, given the great success our articling students have been having in the CASB/CPA program and on the UFE.

Personal

As with most Albertans, I am an import from Saskatchewan – I grew up in Eston, moved to Calgary right after high school and have been an Albertan ever since. My husband, David, and I have a grain and cattle farm operation near Standard. We have two adult sons, both married with families of their own. Our oldest son, live in Kamloops, BC with his family and works for Bayer Crop Sciences. Our youngest son has come back to the farm to farm with us and to also have their own farm site, land and cattle. We both enjoy travelling and have managed to fit in a few winter vacations over the past serveral years.

Education

I have my CMA designation and continue to update my knowledge through professional development courses and work experience here at GH&A.

Professional

I joined GH&A in January 2000 – this was my first introduction to public practice. Prior to that I had worked in industry (an oil company, an office equipment company, and a fertilizer company) and was also able to take some time off to raise our two boys. The knowledge and experience that I had gained from my previous jobs, as well as volunteer positions and “life on the farm” provided a solid foundation for all that there is to learn in public practice. GH&A provides a great learning environment – where the learning never stops. For the better part of the year, my main focus at GH&A is the ever changing farm support programs – namely AgriStability and all its related programs. I am also involved in Municipal Audits and Not for Profit Financial Reporting.

Personal

Like Marlis, I am a transplanted Saskatchewanian (?). Born in Humboldt, I spent most of my formative years in Prince Albert. I moved to Calgary in the spring of 2000, but return to PA often to visit family and friends. My interests are sports (tennis, swimming, and cycling), travelling and hanging out with my friends.

Education

I received my Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan in 1998 and am currently enrolled in CASB. I am planning to write the UFE in the fall of 2011.

Professional

I began at GH&A in March 2000, and left in the summer of 2002 to work in Calgary at a downtown firm. However, I missed the working atmosphere at GH&A, so I came back in December 2004, and have been here ever since.

Personal

I was born and raised in the small town of Flin Flon, Manitoba. Our family moved to Strathmore in 1997 and I have remained in Strathmore along with my wife and two sons. In my spare time you can find me either at the ball diamonds playing slo-pitch, on the golf course enjoying a nice round of golf, or at home watching sports and enjoying my sons grow up. I also played university badminton, which was exciting and fun as we got to travel to different places such as Hawaii for competition.

Education

I graduated from Strathmore High School in 2006. After graduation, I decided to enroll in Environmental Sciences at the University of Calgary but upon completion of my initial year, realized that science was not for me and that I was more suited for business. I attended Mount Royal University, graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Accounting in 2012. I enrolled in the CGA program in 2010 and officially became a member of CGA in October of 2015.

Professional

I began working for Gregory, Harriman & Associates in October of 2013, looking forward to the strong agricultural expertise of the firm. Since then I have had the opportunity to work in many different accounting and taxation areas and have really enjoyed the constant challenge. The staff camaraderie in the office makes it easy to enjoy my job and the flexibility in scheduling makes it an ideal job for a father of two children.

Personal

My story starts in a small town in Saskatchewan. My parents, who owned a small hardware business, had the opportunity to purchase and manage a Home Hardware, so at the age of sixteen I moved to Strathmore. Although I return to the family cabin in Saskatchewan every summer, Strathmore has become my new home. When away from the office, I enjoy various sports, especially hockey and golf, as well as spending time with my family and friends. Whenever I can, I take in live sporting events, I have season tickets to the Flames and to the chagrin of many of my friends, try and make it to as many games for the Saskatchewan Roughriders as I can.

Education

After graduating from Strathmore High School in 2004, I began my post-secondary learning at the University of Alberta. After two years I made a change and returned to Calgary to finish my Bachelor of Economics at the University of Calgary. After receiving my degree, I began working towards my Chartered Accountant designation through the CA School of Business (CASB) program. After many evenings working late on homework and an entire summer dedicated to study I passed the Uniform Evaluation (UFE) and became a Chartered Accountant in December 2014.

Professional

I began working at GH&A in January 2012, initially as a student working towards my designation and now as a professional accountant. The atmosphere in the office is better than I could have hoped for as we really treat every goal as a team, be it for education, or in order to give our clients the best service possible.

As I have progressed in my career I have been given the opportunity to work in a variety of areas for our clients, from Municipal and Not-for-Profit audits to helping clients with their small business needs. I have found the most interesting part so far is meeting and helping clients with their business needs and look forward to continuing to assist clients and the new challenges in our ever-changing accounting and business landscape.

Personal

After growing up in the small community of Calahoo, I moved to Edmonton to go to college. My husband and I moved to Chestermere in 2016. Since we both grew up on acreages, we enjoy the slower paced life outside of the city. I am no stranger to southern Alberta as I would visit my mother's family farm by Champion every summer as a kid. I have a young daughter and small dog who keep me very busy but I love taking trips to the mountains when I have a chance to enjoy the great outdoors.

Education

I received my Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from NAIT and received my designation from the Certified General Accountants Association in 2013

Professional

I started working at a small accounting firm in Edmonton as an accounting technician while I was still attending NAIT. After 8 years, I had to relocate as my husband's office moved to Calgary. I went looking for another accounting firm to call home and landed at Gregory, Harriman & Associates. The atmosphere is exactly what I was looking for and the people are great to work with. I'm looking forward to building my career and client relationships here at GH&A.

I was raised on a family farm just outside of Strathmore. Currently I live in Calgary, where I enjoy cheering on the Flames, and dinner with friends at one of the City's latest and greatest restaurants. Away from the office I enjoy doing pottery, travelling, and staying active with family and friends, in the summer on the golf course or at the lake, and in the winter on the ski hill or at the arena playing ringette.

Education

After graduating from Strathmore High School in 2007, I began my post-secondary education at Mount Royal University. I graduated from Mount Royal University with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a Major in Accounting in December 2011. After receiving my degree, I began working towards my Chartered Accountant designation through the CA School of Business (CASB) program. After completing CASB I wrote and passed the Uniform Final Exam (UFE) in the fall of 2014.

Professional

I first began at Gregory, Harriman & Associates as a summer student in 2009 where I was introduced to the world of public practice. After graduating from University, I began articling and achieved my CA designation at a mid-size firm in Calgary, where I worked on a variety of jobs from private company audits to personal tax returns. I then returned to Gregory, Harriman & Associates in the fall of 2016. I enjoy the everyday learning that comes with my career as well as assisting clients with their varying business needs. I look forward to becoming a trusted advisor to my clients in this ever-changing business and accounting world.

Personal

After a holiday to British Columbia in 1993, my parents decided that Canada was amazing and moved the family from Germany to settle in Lethbridge. I spent my childhood in this windy city and try to get back every once in a while to visit my parents, who still live there. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and son, exploring the mountains we are lucky enough to have so near, travelling and baking.

Education

After graduating from Winston Churchill High School in Lethbridge, I attended the University of Lethbridge, intending to study science. Two years into my science degree, I decided that although biology and microscopes were interesting, I needed a back-up plan. I combined my degree with a Bachelor of Management, which I later complemented with a Professional Diploma in Accounting.

Professional

After graduating from university and getting the travel bug out of my system, I worked in the banking industry as a financial adviser. I joined GH&A in the fall of 2014, and am now pursuing my Chartered Professional Accountant designation. The program, as well as the profession, is very challenging, but I look forward to learning a little more each day and to what the future has in store.
