Applications for 2025 under Year 3 of the Resilient Agricultural Landscape Program (RALP) are set to open on February 3, 2025.
This program is offered through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP). The objective is to increase the environmental resiliency of agricultural landscapes by accelerating adoption of beneficial management practices that maximize carbon sequestration and enhanced climate resilience.
Primary producers with a current Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) will be able to apply for up to $150,000 in funding calculated to cover eligible Implementation Costs of Eligible Beneficial Management Practices including:
-
Fencing and off-site watering systems to manage livestock access around environmentally sensitive areas on farms and ranches.
-
Cross-fencing for controlled access as part of a rotational grazing management project.
-
Adding perennial legumes into established tame pasture and hay fields to improve forage quality and digestibility.
-
Converting annual crop to perennial forages to reduce inputs such as fertilizer and fuel in areas of marginal return.
-
Establishing perennial forages in water runs, saline areas, or saline recharge zones to protect against erosion, increase productivity or reduce size of saline areas, and increase soil carbon.
-
Increasing new soil-building crops and annual legumes into rotations and reduce nitrogen use and improve soil health with intercropping or cover crop cocktail.
-
Establishing permanent shelterbelts to reduce wind speeds which supports winter-feeding management, reduce manure nutrient build-up around farmyards and increase nutrient recovery, and increase wildlife habitat.
-
Creating or widening buffers (trees or shrubs) in agricultural fields adjacent to surface water sources to protect existing riparian areas.
-
Creating areas that provide habitat and food for native pollinators and increase species biodiversity as well as enhance pollination of field crops.
-
Restoring a wetland or constructing a new wetland.
